Our Story

akari is the premium experience for phulkari, honoring the legacy of the Panjabi community.

Rooted in the heart of Panjab, phulkari has always been more than just a textile. It is Panjab’s language of love, a symbol of womanhood, a blessing woven in each thread. Mothers and grandmothers would gather and hand embroider phulkari to adorn, celebrate, and embrace their loved ones. akari is keeping this tradition alive in the modern world.

akari was born out of a desire to revive, reimagine, and reclaim phulkari for the diaspora. As the world changed, many have abandoned their skills, leaving the art form to fade. Founded by a mother and daughter duo, akari's mission is to inspire our community to treasure and preserve phulkari, for ourselves, for each other, from the heart.

We work directly with Panjab's finest artisans, who hand-embroider each piece using real silk thread, patt da dhaga, on pure materials. Each piece takes anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete.

Every akari piece is made with intention, made to last, and made to be passed down. We are so glad you found us. Welcome to the community.
